What is the difference between parquet floor repair and polishing?
Parquet floor repair fixes physical damage — scratches, dents, loose or hollow pieces, and water damage — by replacing or correcting affected sections. Parquet floor polishing is a surface treatment: sanding down the existing finish and applying fresh varnish to restore shine, without necessarily replacing any wood.
How much does parquet floor repair cost in Singapore?
Minor spot repairs typically start from SGD 200 to 250. Larger repairs involving water damage, hollow sections, or multiple replacement pieces cost more and are quoted after a free on-site inspection.
How much does parquet floor polishing cost per square foot?
Parquet floor polishing in Singapore generally costs between SGD 1.40 and SGD 3.00 per square foot, depending on floor condition, varnish type, and total project size.
How long does parquet floor polishing take?
Most residential parquet polishing projects take 1 to 2 days, including sanding and varnish drying time, depending on floor size and condition.
Is water-based varnish better than oil-based varnish for parquet?
Water-based varnish has lower odour, dries faster, and gives a clearer, more natural finish, but costs more than oil-based varnish. Oil-based varnish is more affordable and gives a warmer, richer tone, but has a stronger smell during application.
Can water-damaged parquet flooring be restored?
Yes, in most cases. Affected pieces are removed, the subfloor is checked and dried, and new matching parquet pieces are installed before the area is sanded and refinished. Severely rotted wood cannot be restored and must be replaced.
Do you provide free site inspection for parquet repair in Singapore?
Yes, MCL WoodFlooring provides a free on-site inspection and quotation for parquet repair, polishing, and restoration projects across Singapore.
How do I know if my parquet floor needs restoration instead of just repair?
If damage is limited to a few boards, a spot repair is usually enough. If the floor is uniformly dull, scratched, or worn across most rooms, or hasn't been refinished in many years, a full restoration gives a more even, longer-lasting result.
Do you repair wooden doors as well as floors?
Yes. We sand and re-varnish wooden doors, matching the finish to your flooring so the tone and sheen stay consistent throughout the home.
Do you charge by room size or square foot?
Both pricing methods are used. Smaller residential jobs are typically quoted by room count, while larger installation or restoration projects are priced per square foot.
What types of parquet flooring do you work with?
We work with solid oak, engineered parquet, imported Italian parquet, and coloured or stained parquet. Each behaves differently under a sander — solid oak can handle repeated deep sanding, while engineered parquet's thin veneer may only support a light buff-and-recoat.
What's the difference between solid oak and engineered parquet for repairs?
Solid oak is timber all the way through, so it can be sanded and refinished multiple times over its lifespan. Engineered parquet has a thin real-wood veneer over a plywood or composite core — once that veneer is sanded through, the floor can no longer be refinished in the same way, so we always check veneer thickness first.
How much does parquet floor installation cost in Singapore?
New parquet installation, or full-section replacement, typically starts from SGD 20 per square foot, depending on wood type (solid oak, engineered, or Italian), subfloor condition, and the laying pattern chosen.
How do I clean and maintain a parquet floor day-to-day?
Dry or microfiber-mop regularly to remove grit, wipe up spills immediately, and use a pH-neutral wood floor cleaner sparingly. Avoid wet mopping, steam cleaning, vinegar or ammonia-based products, and dragging furniture across the surface, as these can damage the varnish over time.
How much does parquet floor sanding alone cost, versus a full polish?
Sanding is one step within our polishing and restoration services rather than a separate standalone charge — it's priced together with refinishing at SGD 1.40 to 3.00 per square foot, since sanding without a fresh varnish coat would leave the wood unprotected.
