Ang Mo Kio was built out as a major new town through the 1970s, right in the middle of the era when parquet was the default flooring for HDB bedrooms and living rooms.
Ang Mo Kio is one of Singapore's larger mature estates, and much of it was constructed during the 1970s HDB building boom. That timing matters: it's the exact period when parquet tiles were being laid as standard flooring across new blocks, before ceramic tile and vinyl took over in the 1990s and 2000s.
Because so much of Ang Mo Kio was built in that window and hasn't all been redeveloped since, original parquet is still common in its older blocks — particularly units that have changed hands only once or twice.
On the resale market, older estates like Ang Mo Kio and Queenstown have historically traded at a discount to newer towns such as Pasir Ris, partly because of their age — which is also exactly why so many original interior finishes, parquet included, were never stripped out and replaced.
HDB's Main Upgrading Programme, launched in 1990, targeted pre-1980 estates like Ang Mo Kio with structural and common-area improvements — extra bathrooms, lifts stopping on every floor, redesigned facades — but it didn't automatically replace interior flooring, which is why parquet from the original build often survived these upgrades untouched.
For flats that have had one long-term owner since the 1970s or 80s, the parquet inside is frequently the original installation, meaning it may be 40+ years old and showing its age through fading, gaps or water damage near wet areas.
A lot of Ang Mo Kio's original parquet has structurally sound timber underneath decades of surface wear, which is why sanding and refinishing usually works better than a full replacement. We handle parquet floor repair for gaps, warping and water-stained boards, parquet polishing to bring back the shine on dulled floors, and full parquet restoration for flats where decades of wear call for a whole-floor refinish.
View Parquet Services →Many Ang Mo Kio flats and nearby condos that were upgraded over the years also have marble in the living room, bathroom or kitchen counters. Our group offers full marble polishing services — grinding, honing, crystallization, stain removal, and chip or crack repair — for surfaces that have dulled or yellowed with age and humidity.
View Marble Services →Older estates like Ang Mo Kio tend to have a mix of window types, from original steel casement windows to later replacements — and our MSeal magnetic insect screens are designed to fit over almost all of them without drilling. They block mosquitoes (including dengue-carrying Aedes mosquitoes), flies and other insects while keeping airflow through the flat.
View Insect Screen Services →Older estates often need more than one type of repair at once. Coordinating them with a single provider saves time and avoids repeat visits.
No juggling three separate vendors who don't know your flat.
Renovation-time visits planned together instead of independently.
A leak affecting both parquet and nearby marble skirting is one visit, not two.
Refinish rather than replace, no-drill rather than permanent, wherever possible.
