Bedok is one of Singapore's largest mature estates, and its older blocks are among the few in Singapore where original 1970s and 80s parquet flooring is still common.
Walk into an older resale flat in Bedok and there's a good chance the bedrooms are still floored in parquet — the same herringbone or basket-weave timber tiles that were standard issue when the estate was built out. Newer estates mostly skip parquet entirely, which is why the pattern of "lots of parquet" tracks so closely with where the old flats are.
Here's why Bedok specifically ended up with so much of it, and what that means for maintaining a parquet floor that's now decades old.
Bedok's HDB blocks were developed heavily through the 1970s and 1980s, during the exact window when parquet was the default flooring laid into HDB bedrooms and living areas before vinyl and ceramic tile became the norm in newer builds.
Because Bedok became one of Singapore's biggest mature towns, it also has one of the largest surviving pools of these original-era flats. Resale data consistently shows Bedok among the towns with the most active transactions for 45-to-55-year-old units, alongside Toa Payoh and Kallang/Whampoa — which is unusual, since most towns of that age have far fewer units left on the market.
A lot of that original parquet has never been touched beyond routine mopping. Decades of Singapore's humidity swings, water exposure near kitchens and bathrooms, and simple foot traffic mean many of these floors now have gaps, cupping, dullness or dark staining — all fixable without ripping the floor out.
If your Bedok flat still has its original parquet, it's very likely due for attention rather than replacement. We handle parquet floor repair for gaps, warping and water-stained boards, parquet polishing to bring back the shine on dulled floors, and full parquet restoration for flats where decades of wear call for a whole-floor refinish.
View Parquet Services →Many Bedok flats and nearby condos that were upgraded over the years also have marble in the living room, bathroom or kitchen counters. Our group offers full marble polishing services — grinding, honing, crystallization, stain removal, and chip or crack repair — for surfaces that have dulled or yellowed with age and humidity.
View Marble Services →Older estates like Bedok tend to have a mix of window types, from original steel casement windows to later replacements — and our MSeal magnetic insect screens are designed to fit over almost all of them without drilling. They block mosquitoes (including dengue-carrying Aedes mosquitoes), flies and other insects while keeping airflow through the flat.
View Insect Screen Services →Older estates often need more than one type of repair at once. Coordinating them with a single provider saves time and avoids repeat visits.
No juggling three separate vendors who don't know your flat.
Renovation-time visits planned together instead of independently.
A leak affecting both parquet and nearby marble skirting is one visit, not two.
Refinish rather than replace, no-drill rather than permanent, wherever possible.
